Web Portfolio
With web-related projects, my goal is to create accessible and aesthetic websites and Flash designs that are eye-catching and at the same time fully functional across the various browser platforms. This page offers a small glimpse of my work. If you have a project in mind that you'd like to discuss, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Websites
Williamsville-Getzville MOMS Club
Description: W3C standard-compliant XHTML and CSS, 2-column design with topmast, message row and sidebar navigation; both screen and print stylesheets; graphics created in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator
For the Williamsville-Getzville, New York, Chapter of the International MOMS Club created a design meant to convey a fun, colourful and ultimately childlike theme to appeal to parents and children alike. Since the website content was minimal, decided to create a single page with anchors to allow visitors to move easily from one topic to another. The required logo of the International MOMS Club was included as a link to the organization's website.
Highfields Community Primary School, Nantwich, Cheshire
Description: Standard-compliant XHTML and CSS, 2-column and 3-column liquid designs with main navigation consisting of JavaScript rollovers; both screen and print stylesheets; graphics created in Adobe Photoshop
For a primary school located in Cheshire, England, I was asked to design, develop and maintain a large (over 30-page) website. The colours and texture of the school's uniform as well as its logo were incorporated into the graphics and design, and digital reproductions of student artwork featured throughout the site. The majority of the content and many of the images were created by the Year 5/6 students under my supervision as part of their ICT training. The website is now wholly maintained by the school.
Jeanne's Online (X)HTML Course
Description: Standard-compliant XHTML and CSS, 2-column design incorporating sidebar navigation and print stylesheet; graphics created in Adobe Photoshop
Developed a website for a 6-week online HTML and XHTML Web Design course, incorporating lectures, assignments, sample code, demos designed to explain important concepts such as HTML forms, and a message board for students to communicate with each other and the instructor: post assignments, for example, and ask questions. Access is restricted to graduates or to those currently enrolled in the online course.
Syncron Development Management Limited
Description: Standard-compliant XHTML and CSS, 2-column design with tabbed top-level navigation; graphics created in Adobe Photoshop
For this well-established Montreal real estate brokerage firm, created a website showcasing the client's services, client list and contact information. Graphics incorporating photographs of Montreal were created to convey Syncron's dedication to the City, and muted colours were chosen to reflect the client's long-standing dedication to the industry. The website is no longer available online.
Web Article Entitled "The Historic Town of Nantwich"
Description: Standard-compliant XHTML and CSS, 2-column liquid design with floated images and pullquote; graphics created in Adobe Photoshop
Created a webpage showcasing the historic town of Nantwich in the West Midlands of England. It features floated images and text within the body of the article and, together with its sister page, benefits from a liquid design and CSS-driven sidebar menu. Thumbnails within the article are linked to larger images which open in a new browser window. The top masthead adjusts to fit any screen resolution or browser window size.
"The Odessa Connexion"
Description: Standard-compliant XHTML and CSS, 2-column design with top-level main navigation; graphics created in Adobe Photoshop
Created a website for a primary school in Cheshire to celebrate the visit by representatives from a school in Odessa, Ukraine. Intended to chronicle the visit, the website consisted of a few information pages, to contain data about Odessa as well the agenda for the visit, a sponsors page, and, most importantly, a page containing photos of the visit. The website is no longer available online.
CSS 2.1 in Depth : : The Final Project
Description: Standard-compliant HTML and CSS, 2-column design with top-level navigation incorporating CSS rollovers; graphics created in Adobe Photoshop
For a course dedicated to CSS 2.1, a style sheet language that builds on previous versions of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS 1 and CSS 2), I was asked to take an html document devoid of styles and create a stylesheet for it without altering the original web document (markup). Internet Explorer 6 does not recognize many advanced CSS 2.1 selectors, so be sure to take a look at the document in this browser as well as a standard-compliant browser such as Mozilla Firefox. (Note that the screen capture at right displays the document as it is rendered by Firefox.)
Travels in the United Kingdom
Description: XHTML and CSS, 2-column design with top-level navigation incorporating Flash rollovers; graphics created in Adobe Photoshop
Created a website to showcase our travels while living in the West Midlands of England. The original design was created in Dreamweaver using tables and later converted to XHTML and CSS. Photographs are displayed in the left column with a description of the city, estate, castle, etc., in the right column. The site is standard-compliant with the exception of the Flash rollovers. It also incorporates JavaScript to swap photographic images and features a Flash slideshow (see below).
A Simple Redirect
Description: A simple webpage consisting of a graphic, minimal text, and JavaScript to redirect the page to another web location; graphics created in Adobe Photoshop
For this simple redirect page, a screen shot of my current weblog was manipulated to fit within an image of a laptop. Visitors to the index page of my former blog are redirected to the new weblog after a time interval of five seconds, thanks to JavaScript.
Flash MX 2004 Projects
Below are a few examples of Flash MX 2004 projects I've created: first, a slideshow showcasing the castles of England, Scotland and Wales, next an interactive drag and drop game created for children, a time-telling demo utilizing ActionScript, and a second interactive Christmas ecard.
