March 2005
With most National Trust properties re-opening in March, and four days off at Easter, we resumed our touring over the long weekend, with a drive South to the charming town of Ludlow and, less than ten miles farther along, to Berrington Hall near Leominster. It was a rainy day but mercifully turned dry for the duration of our two walkabouts.
Ludlow
Ludlow is an old market town with much in common with Nantwich: a medieval street layout, numerous half-timbered buildings, elegant Georgian brick houses, and an impressive parish church dominating the town square. Unlike Nantwich, however, it was a fortified town, complete with a castle within the circuit of its town walls. The castle remains, as well as some stretches of the town wall.
Berrington Hall
Each year Kassie looks forward to completing a National Trust Easter trail. This year was no exception. She had a great time exploring the grounds of the neo-classical Berrington Hall, particularly its walled garden amidst a chorus of strutting peacocks.
